Isn’t it Time We Used Our Commonsense?
What I will ask you to do before you continue reading through this short article is to completely disregard traditional or modern education. What do I mean by that? Well, when I speak to business leaders, managers and even the employees on the ground floor during a Managing Health for Optimum Performance® seminar, I kindly ask them to disregard most of the things, which they have previously read in magazines, books or newspaper articles concerning how to exercise to burn body fat, diets, the correct way to eat, etc.
Disregard all those “unbelievable” studies (which are very often funded by the people who are promoting their product) or television programmes. Instead, after hearing what I have to share with them I request that they ask themselves the all important question,” Does what he is saying make commonsense?” You see, most of us today have been so well conditioned by very aggressive marketing campaigns that we disregard our own commonsense.
What do I mean by commonsense? Well, let me ask you a commonsense question.
If you just won five million pounds on the national lottery and decided to buy yourself a brand new red Ferrari Testarosa, would you take it to the service station and put paraffin in the fuel tank and water in the oil tank? What an absurd question you may be asking yourself. You wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing. Why? Because commonsense tells you that you would seize the motor and your cherished Ferrari’s performance would be worse than Freddie Flintstones stone-age car!
Let me ask you a second question. Do you consistently eat nutrient deficient food and drink nutrient deficient liquids, exercise irregularly (or for many of us, not at all!), feel stressed, smoke cigarettes (or other stimulants!), and very often (or on occasions) drink excessive amounts of alcohol and expect peak daily performance, mental clarity, and an abundance of energy and vitality?
Commonsense would tell you that consistently consuming (and abusing) or depriving your body with the regular intake of such things will not provide you with an abundance of energy and vitality. However, for most people today this is the norm.
The consequences of consuming nutrient deficient foods and liquids plus many different stimulants is something we have been taught to live with. Our business performance may be somewhat under par, the energy and spark in our life somewhat low and dim, but we just get on with it. There are some of us who live with chronic fatigue, can barely function and live with so much stress that life is just a continuous roller coaster ride.
Therefore, understanding that by putting paraffin in the fuel tank and water in the oil tank of a Ferrari Testarosa would result in a very poor performance and engine failure, why then would we put such nutrient deficient foods, liquids and stimulants in our own body’s fuel tank and expect peak performance?
That’s what I mean by disregarding our own commonsense. Your daily performance, energy and concentration levels, mental clarity and effectiveness will be determined by what you do with your body (exercise) and what you put inside your body (nutrition) just like your dream car. And I can assure you, that the machine (your body), which you possess has much more value and importance than any Ferrari Testarosa!
And why we’re on the subject of the importance of maintaining your machine (your body) in peak condition, I would like to remind you that today most people in our society don’t value their bodies and their health anything like they value money or their career needs.
Invariably, very often when I ask people the question, “what do you want to do when you retire?” inevitably most people give me the same response; “I want to have enough money to be able to enjoy myself and do all the things that I didn’t have time to do when I was busy working.” My reply goes something like, “well, if you continue living your life in the fast lane and continue to disregard your health then when, or rather if, you reach retirement, you won’t be able to enjoy your freedom and pursue all those things that you couldn’t do when you were to busy working.”
Let me explain.
All of us, myself included, every month invest our hard earned cash into pension funds, life insurances, savings accounts, etc, so we will have a nice little “nest egg” when we retire. Understandably, the reason we do this is so that we will become financially independent in later years.
In the meantime, most people I see are running around feeling tired, overwhelmed or stressed out most of the day with a knot in their stomach, which is not healthy. In trying to conquer these feelings of distress, they get themselves addicted to “stimulants” (chemicals that you think give you a boost) like coffee, tea, alcohol, cigarettes, chocolate and sugar.
Subsequently, while climbing the career ladder and increasing your bank balance, your health significantly deteriorates.
Therefore, if you give up your body (health), like most people do while trying to become successful and financially independent, then you won’t have the abundance of energy and vitality needed to enjoy “life after work” because your health will no longer support you.
Listen, my goal is quite simple; to help you enjoy your career, your retirement and your financial independence. And to do that, you will need to invest daily in your health just like you invest your money in a pension fund or any other financial plan you have. And that’s exactly what you’re doing, making an investment, an investment in your future.
You see, when I drink 3 litres of water daily, I look upon that as an investment in my future. When I exercise early in the morning, I look upon the exercise as an investment. When I’m feeling a little stressed and take a sauna, it’s an investment.
So while you invest your money wisely, consider applying the same principle to your health. Start now by making small deposits in your health account and enjoy the large ROI you will receive, a long with your financial independence when you retire! If not, you just may end up as the “richest person in the graveyard!” And you can’t do any business from there.
Wishing you a Very Healthy Existence!
