Unprocessed fats are any fats that occur in their natural state. The best examples are the fats contained in almonds, olive oil, avocados, flax seed oil and sunflower oil.

Fats in their unprocessed, natural form serve 5 primary functions:

1)    They build cell membranes.
2)    They raise metabolism and create energy.
3)    They aid in the production of hormones.
4)    They provide lubrication to the body so that the cells are free to move.
5)    They protect the body by buffering and neutralising acids.
